Peaceful morning

The past 2 mornings Fletcher has been up for the day just before 6:00 am. He's been sleeping better at night (praise the Lord!!!) so I don't mind if he has an earlier start, although if he suddenly starts sleeping in until 7 I will be more than happy to accommodate!

We've been enjoying the quiet early hours together with snuggling and nursing, playing with the various stuffed animals he has in the bedroom, bouncing his wiggles out in his johnny-jump-up while I make coffee and clean up the kitchen, and then eating a big boy breakfast in his high chair.

Today we also skyped with Uncle Eric to wish him a happy birthday.

Now Fletcher is down for his morning nap, and I'm stealing the rest of this quiet morning for myself. I have a hot mug of java, a comfy glider in the corner, and a blog that is aching for an update!

F and me. Can you tell he's teething?
Speaking of birthdays, I recently had one myself!

During one of my recent neighborhood walks with Fletcher, I stopped into the thrift store down the street to peruse the goods. For the record, I am in awe of people who shop thrift stores regularly and really wish that I could develop an eye for that sort of thing. I rarely see the potential in the cast off items, but on this particular day THREE items caught my eye. A beautiful green cut glass cake stand, and two mint colored milk glass canisters that very subtly read "coffee" and "tea" in raised letters.

Greg and I live pretty frugally these days, so I admired these gems and then walked away, only to find myself thinking about them later that afternoon, even describing the treasures to Greg when he was home for his lunch break. I told him that I had decided that after Fletcher's afternoon nap, I was going to go back and splurge on the items. Greg agreed and even encouraged me to treat myself, so you can imagine my disappointment when I returned and saw that all three items were gone.

Disappointed, I kicked myself for not jumping on them earlier, told myself it wasn't meant to be, and went on with my life -- only to wake up on my birthday and find that my sneaky husband had somehow managed to beat me to the treasures and surprise me with all three things!

My pretties
Isn't Greg the greatest? What a thoughtful guy. He is so encouraging in all my attempts to be domestic and make our place a home. I want our place to be functional, comfortable, and welcoming to our guests as well as my family and he really encourages my attempts to be hospitable.  He also took me to brunch on my birthday and Fletcher was on his best behavior as he played in the high chair at the restaurant so it was a really nice family outing.

I can't believe we're coming up on Fletcher's first birthday soon! Wow. It's almost been a year that he's been in our lives. On one hand, I can't believe how quickly this year has flown by, but on the other hand I can't really remember life without Fletcher. It just sort of feels like he's always been a part of this family.

Oh! Perfect timing, I just hear my little guy starting to stir. I'm going to go get him up now.
